You can apply medicine after punching the hole and put a stopper to prevent the hole from closing. Apply the proper medicine and bandaging to prevent any infection from setting in. Don’t touch it until the swelling and pain is gone.

If the swelling persist after three days and the pain gets worse you will have to go to a doctor for an examination. You may not have followed the correct aseptic procedure in making the hole and your 8 gauge plugs and equipment may have been contaminated. Puss formation is a sure sign that an infection has set in. It is not a serious condition unless you are not going to see a doctor for the proper treatment.
